Hole In My Heart by Ben Pierce

Generously sponsored by:  LMC

Location: East Roswell Park Entrance

Materials:  Steel, stainless steel
Dimensions: 10’ X 5’ X 3’
Cost:  $9,500

Hole in My Heart is a work of steel that was inspired by the artist’s love of architecture, and his appreciation for the profound importance of the natural world.  In particular, he is inspired by plants, and the way they grow and react to sunlight.  The artist finds inspiration and beauty in nature, and that has inspired a fluidity and softness to his most recent work.

Born in Southeast Missouri, Ben Pierce was raised on the traditional values of honesty and hard work.  After graduating high school, Ben served 4 years in the U.S. Military which reinforced the values learned in is youth. Later he attended and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts.  Using a minimalist approach he builds sculptures that represent experiences or feelings he’s had, but that are universally identifiable. Influenced and inspired by nature and architecture Pierce constructs simple geometric forms to capture the viewer’s interest and stir their emotions.  Negative space is a large aspect of Pierce’s work that helps to create tension to capture and focus on space.
